How to set up Matter device with Alexa, Google, Apple or SmartThings
This article will show you how to set up your matter-certified product in Alexa, Google, Apple, and SmartThings ecosystems via Matter.

Note: The Matter setup code that comes with the device is only used to set up the Matter device initially via Matter. For adding the device to another smart home system or assistant, you need to generate a new setup code from the assistant connected. (For more details please refer to the FAQ How to set up a connected Matter device with another smart home system
1. Check compatibility (Click here for more information)
- Alexa app version: 2.2.491118.0 or later
- Please update the software of your Echo devices to a compatible version, such as v8289070468.
- By now, only the Android version of the Alexa app supports Matter.

2. Set up your Matter device initially in Alexa
a. Restore your device to factory default settings.
Notes:
Please refer to the Manual of your product for detailed instructions. Take Tapo P125M as an example. You can press and hold the Power button for 10s to factory default your device.
The pairing mode of your Matter device will automatically turn off in 15 minutes. If the Matter setup process is not completed in 15 minutes, a power cycle or factory reset will be needed.
b. Launch the Alexa app and go to the Devices page.
c. Tap + and then tap Add Device to add a new device.
d. After you Tapped Add Device, there are 3 methods for you to find a portal to set up your Matter device in Alexa.
(1) Find the Matter icon Tap it, and then tap Next on the following pages.
(2) Scroll down to Choose Other, tap Matter, and then tap Next on the following pages.
(2) Tap and Tap Matter, then tap Next on the following pages.
e. Tap Yes on the confirming page.
f. Tap Scan QR Code and scan the QR code on your device.
Notes:
Before you Scan the QR Code or Enter the numeric code, please enable Bluetooth on your mobile phone.
Ensure your Matter device, your phone, and your Alexa Matter-enabled Hub are connected to the same Wi-Fi. (The Matter device and your phone are required to connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi)
If your device comes without a QR code but a numeric code, you can tap Try Numeric Code Instead? to enter the numeric setup code that comes along with your device.
g. Wait for your device to set up, then choose the Wi-Fi you want your device to connect to and enter the corresponding Wi-Fi password.
h. Tap Done. Now you can find your device on the Device list and use your voice to control your device, such as “Alexa, turn on my smart plug” and “Alexa, turn off my smart plug”.
Note: Alexa will name the added Matter-certified device based on its type. Take Tapo P125M for an example. The first Tapo P125M paired with Alexa will be automatically named “First Plug”.

- Google Home App: 2.62.1.15 or later
- By now, only the Android version of the Google Home app supports Matter.
- Please update the software/firmware of your controller devices to a compatible version, such as v1.56.324896 for Google Nest Hub (2nd gen).

2. Set up your Matter device initially in Google Home
a. Restore your device to factory default settings.

b. Launch your Google Home App. Tap +, choose Set up the device, and tap New Device to add a new device.
c. Choose Matter and tap Next.
d. Tap Yes on the confirming page.
e. Scan the setup QR code on your device.
Notes:
Before you Scan the QR Code or Enter the numeric code, please enable Bluetooth on your mobile phone.
Ensure your Matter device, your phone, and your Apple Matter-enabled Hub are connected to the same Wi-Fi. (The Matter device and your phone are required to connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi)
If your device comes without a QR code but a numeric code, you can tap Set up without QR code and enter the numeric code.
f. Tap Done when the device is connected.
g. Choose a location for your device and give it a name. Then you can find your device on the Device list and turn on/off your device on the Google Home app or with Google Assistants.

- iOS system: Version 16.2 or later.
- Matter-supported Controller: Home Pod, Home Pod mini, or Apple TV.
Note: Please update your iOS devices to iOS 16.2 or a later version. The latest version will provide you with a better experience.
2. Set up your Matter device initially in Apple Home.
a. Restore your device to factory default settings.

Please refer to the Manual of your product for detailed instructions. Take Tapo P125M as an example. You can press and hold the Power button for 10s to factory default your device.
The pairing mode of your Matter device will automatically turn off in 15 minutes. If the Matter setup process is not completed in 15 minutes, a power cycle or factory reset will be needed.
b. Launch your Home App. Tap + and then tap Add or Scan Accessory to add a new device.
c. Scan the setup QR code on your device.
If your device comes without a QR code but a numeric code, you can tap More options… and enter the numeric code.
Notes:
Before you Scan the QR Code or Enter the numeric code, please enable Bluetooth on your mobile phone.
Ensure your Matter device, your phone, and your Apple Matter-enabled Hub are connected to the same Wi-Fi. (The Matter device and your phone are required to connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi)
d. Choose a location for your device and give it a name.
e. Choose how your device will appear. Now you can check your device on the Device list and turn on/off your device on the Home app.

Note: If you're using a Samsung SmartThings Matter controller listed above, it will need a firmware version 45.9 or higher
2. Set up your Matter device initially in SmartThings. (Android Setup)
a. Reset your device to factory default settings.

The pairing mode of your Matter device will automatically turn off in 15 minutes. If the Matter setup process is not completed in 15 minutes, a power cycle or factory reset will be needed.
b. Launch your SmartThings App. Tap Devices, then Tap + and choose Add device and tap New Device to add a new device.
c. Tap Scan QR code.
If your device comes without a QR code but a numeric code, you can tap Enter setup code and enter the numeric code.
Notes:
Before you Scan the QR Code or Enter the numeric code, please enable Bluetooth on your mobile phone.
Ensure your Matter device, your phone, and your Apple Matter-enabled Hub are connected to the same Wi-Fi. (The Matter device and your phone are required to connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi)

d. Tap Start on the coming page after you scan the QR code or enter the pairing code.
e. Wait for your device to set up, then choose the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi you want your device to connect to and enter the corresponding Wi-Fi password.
f. After your device finishes Registering, you can choose a location and room for your device and give it a name.
g. Then you can find your device on the Device list and turn on/off your device on the SmartThings app.
3. Set up your matter device initially in SmartThings. (iOS Setup)
a. Reset your device to factory default settings.

Please refer to the Manual of your product for detailed instructions. Take Tapo P125M as an example. You can press and hold the Power button for 10s to factory default your device.
The pairing mode of your Matter device will automatically turn off in 15 minutes. If the Matter setup process is not completed in 15 minutes, a power cycle or factory reset will be needed.
b. Launch your SmartThings App. Tap Devices, then Tap + and choose Add device and select the setup methods. (Scan QR code or Enter code)
If your device comes without a QR code but a numeric code, you can tap Enter code and enter the numeric code.
Notes:
Before you Scan the QR Code or Enter the numeric code, please enable Bluetooth on your mobile phone.
Ensure your Matter device, your phone, and your Apple Matter-enabled Hub are connected to the same Wi-Fi. (The Matter device and your phone are required to connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi)

c. When everything gets ready, Select a hub for your Matter-Certified devices
d. After the Preparing process finished, add your device to iCloud and name your device. The SmartThings setup process will start after you add the device to iCloud.
Note: After your Matter device is added to iCloud, the device won’t display in Apple Home APP. While the device will be added to your Apple ID as a Matter accessory. (You could check it by Tapping settings -> General -> Matter Accessories.)
e. Follow the process to add your device to SmartThings. Once the setup succeeds, you can choose a location and room for your device and give it a name.
f. Then you can find your device on the Device list and turn on/off your device on the SmartThings app.
Before You Start
Please update your Tapo app to a compatible version.
iOS: 2.14.110 or later,
Android: 2.12.705 or later
After setting up your device via Matter on third-party platforms, you can follow the process below to add your device to the Tapo app.
a. Connect your mobile phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your device.
b. Open the Tapo app and the device will be automatically found.
c. Tap ADD DEVICE to add your device.
d. Follow the app to complete your setup process.
If no window pops up on your Tapo app or you accidentally choose Not Now on the above pop-up window, you can manually add your device to Tapo.
a. Connect your mobile phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your device.
b. Launch the Tapo app and tap + on the home page
c. Choose the device you want to add from Discovered Devices.
d. Follow the app to complete your setup process.
