How to reduce noise on Tapo cameras

Introduction
When monitoring audio from a Tapo camera, you may hear background noise. This is a common characteristic of IP cameras, as sound recording is affected by physical and environmental factors. Tapo cameras use sensitive audio collectors to ensure clear sound pickup, which may also capture ambient noise. While completely eliminating noise is not currently feasible, this article offers tips to reduce noise and improve sound-monitoring performance.
Troubleshooting
Step 1. Ensure your Tapo app and camera’s firmware are up to date.
Step 2. Use the original power adapter. Low‑quality or incompatible adapters may introduce electrical noise.
Step 3. Do not place the camera in overly enclosed spaces or near sound‑reflective surfaces such as walls or corners, as the microphone may capture both direct and reflected sound, resulting in echo or reverberation.
Step 4. When using the Voice Call function, keep your phone at a distance from the camera (for example, in a different room) to prevent audio feedback, echo, or other noise issues.
Step 5. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is a common cause of live stream noise. Avoid placing the camera near EMI sources such as routers, microwave ovens, and refrigerators.
Step 6. Lower the camera’s microphone volume in Tapo app > camera Live View > Talk page to reduce background noise, as excessively high microphone volume settings may amplify ambient sound.
